Show and Tell is one of the things that teachers love and parents usually dread. The kids bring in something from home and parents agonize over whether it will come back home from there. Will someone else have the same thing? Is this what the teacher meant when they said “something to go with this week’s theme”?
Let me put your mind at ease: Show and Tell is not that complicated. It is usually just assigned to get the children to talk about something they are comfortable with/feel passionate about/like. That being said, I have found since becoming a parent that I take Show and Tell crazy to a whole new level.
This week was the letter H at LO’s school. I packed her bag the night before to make sure we had the perfect “H” items. She brought a toy house, a book called “Happy Hippo, Angry Duck” (best book ever, by the way), and was dressed in Hello Kitty from head to toe. I would have also given her a headband but she didn’t want to wear it. I tried.
Yes, this is the crazy teacher mommy in me. But trust me, Show and Tell doesn’t have to be like that. EVER. Even for me.
